Welcome to the
Paso del Norte Mensa
Web Page. [Last update 2/08]
| Mensa is an international society that has one - and only one - qualification for membership: a score in the top 2% of the population on a standardized intelligence test. |
Mensa's purposes are to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity; to encourage research in the nature, characteristics, and uses of intelligence; and to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members.
| American Mensa has approximately 50,000 members. Five million Americans are
eligible for Mensa membership. Mensans come from all walks of life and all levels of society. However, they share one trait - high intelligence. To qualify for Mensa, one must score in the top 2% of the general population on an accepted standardized intelligence test. As an organization, American Mensa provides intelligent individuals an opportunity to meet other smart people at the local, regional, and national levels. Mensans interact at entertaining events and exchange ideas through a variety of publications. Mensa members also work to help others in their communities by providing scholarships and volunteering for community-oriented activities. |
Paso del Norte Mensa has more than 100 members spread over a large area, as you can tell by looking at the shaded area in the map above. This vast distance tends to make it difficult for members to get together on a regular basis, but also helps create a unique and diverse group of extremely interesting people. There are people from all walks of life who are members of this group. Everything from doctors to custodians, card carrying rocket scientists to those who can't really pin down exactly what they do. We even have one member who qualified while being tested for the severity of brain damage he incurred in an accident.
